An honest guide

Looking for a Spidergap alternative?

Why people go looking, when switching makes sense — and when it doesn’t.

We build Portraits, a 360° feedback and development platform, so read this with that bias in mind. Spidergap is a well-made, well-supported tool — the reasons people look for an alternative are usually about fit, not quality. The two we hear most from coaches: the annual per-recipient pricing suits a fixed programme better than a growing practice, and once the report lands, the development work moves off the platform — the plan is a template in the report, not a workflow the participant lives in.

When you should stay with Spidergap

If what you need is the assessment done impeccably — clear reports, a validated default questionnaire, superb support, a known quantity with sixteen years behind it — staying put is a sound decision. The cost of any migration is real, and Spidergap’s focus is a feature, not a gap.

When Portraits is the better fit

Choose Portraits when the 360 is the start of a coaching engagement. Feedback cycles run with configurable anonymity and automated reminders; AI drafts the executive summary and development themes; each participant gets a portal with a GROW-based development plan; and a coach or consulting team manages every client from one workspace — white-label on the Agency plan (£249/month). The Starter plan is free for up to ten participants and one full cycle, and Professional is £79 a month with unlimited cycles and participants, so a practice can grow without renegotiating licences.

The fairest test is your own: read the full head-to-head, then run one free cycle in each and see which way of working suits your practice.
